Rainbow Mother (deity)

The patron deity of the Grippli of the Rainbow Marsh, the Rainbow Mother is a Regional Deity of Life, Madness, Nature and Alchemy. Her form is fluid but she often appears as either a great toad, a massively rotund Grippli matriarch or a cloud of writhing rainbow gases. Her devotees worship her not only through traditional rites of prayer and sacrifice but also through the use of various alchemical reagents. Priests and Priestesses of the Rainbow Mother are often adept alchemists and imbibe or offer a variety of alchemically reactive agents to their devotees. Many of these alchemical agents are psychoactive in nature, producing a state of altered consciousness for various purposes.
Foes of the Grippli have especially come to fear the great and final blessing of the Rainbow Mother, a powerful effort which combines arcane and divine magic, natural reagents and alchemical concoctions into a roiling cloud of vapors of all color. At the cost of the wielder's life, this spell, called "The Breath of the Rainbow Mother" can inflict madness, change its victim's shape, species and age, it can also liquefy organic and inorganic materials and sap the very life force from foes.
