Church of the Unconquered Sun

Church of the Unconquered Sun is the state religion of the Solis Empire and the only religion allowed to be practised inside its borders. The Church believes that the sun is the guardian and guide of the Solis people and their empire. The sun is also believed to be the creator of the world and the life-giver.

Being a follower of the Church is considered to be the central part of belonging to the Solis culture. Many people say that a Solis person can't be an atheist.

Divine Origins

The Church of the Unconquered Sun has its roots long before the foundation of the Solis Empire. The Solis people have always believed to be the children of the Sun. Since time immemorial they have prayed to the Sun every time a child was born and every leader of a Solis group was called "Chosen by the Sun". As the numerous tribes were slowly becoming one country, the sun cult was becoming more and more organized.

The "Unconquered" epithet was added to represent the Sun's role as the patron of the Imperial Army. Victories of the empire are considered signs of the Sun's favour.

Cosmological Views

According to the Church, in the beginning there was only the Sun. It travelled through the void. There, it was lonely and bored so it shot its rays and where they landed appeared a piece of land. After a moment a mouse dug itself out the sand. Seeing that, the Sun started to shoot its rays in every direction. The void started to fill up with land and life. When the world was complete, the Sun placed itself high above it, so it can watch over its creation.

Sects

All divergances from the official doctrine of the Church is treated as a heresy and heretics are hunted, arrested and killed. However, that doesn't stop new splinter groups from forming.

Polytheists - they are a group that believes that the Sun didn't create the world on its own. According to them, the Sun is just one of many gods who had part in the creation process. The other gods are said to be annoyed that they are being denied worship and people need to quickly change their ways.

Purists - they are a group believing that only ethnic Solis are allowed to be part of the Church. This believe goes directly against the Imperial policy of using religious conversions as the main part of the cultural assimilation process. As the result, the Purists are not only considered herectics, but also enemies of the state
