Inspired by shows such as The Expanse (SyFy) and Altered Carbon (netflix).   A series of technological breakthroughs led to humanity settling on Mars in 2030, and thus finally becoming a multiplanet species. Over the next three generations Mars would see an explosive growth in population, largely due to the growing panic caused by an increase in natural disasters as damage done to Earth's ecosystem reached critical levels.   Of course, similar to how the colonies on Earth had started longing for independence in the 18th century, so did the Martian people. Mars had grown to become a place where science flourished, as their everyday problems required new and innovative solutions. While Mars had become largely self-sustaining, the regulations and demands placed by the United Nations caused a large amount of friction between the two planets. Many of the colonists of that period wanted to secede from the rule of Earth. Between 2099 and 2102 Mars and Earth were caught in a revolutionary war, with Martians taking over many of the corporations that made up the de facto rulership of Mars. The revolution eventually ended with the accidental discovery of a Fusion Drive by a Martian citizen (previous to this Pulse Engines had been more popular), a game changing technology that would allow whoever had it to expand past the inner systems. Mars would trade this technology for its sovereignty, allowing both nations to focus on the exploration and settlement of further reaches of the solar system despite their rivalry.   The year now, is 2202, a century after the invention of fusion drives and the end of the Mars Revolutionary War. Advances in the field of bionics have rapidly changed life. Resurrection technology has become commonplace, through in the use of a device called a Cortical Stack, or Stack for short. This implant is surgically placed at the top of the spine, storing full snapshots of brain states and memories. Upon death this implant may simply be placed in a new body or "Sleeve", a process which is called "Re-sleeving", after which life may resume as normal.
