Bannermen of the Craglands
Under the banner of the Throne of Crags, these men take to field with sword & sling to drive out any threat to their ancestral home.
Composition
Manpower
The Bannermen currently number 317, though many of the local men at arms have begun to imitate the training meaning that as part of the full levy they number closer to 1000.
Weaponry
Each of the Bannermen are equipped with sword, sling and shield. Their blades are typical of those made in Andalas, straight hilted arming swords with pronounces crossguards. Their slings are wrapped around their forearm, to allow for them to be 'dropped' upon entering a melee whilst removing the risk of their loss. Their shields are of a type known as the Oskalon, their ovoid shapes allowing the user good vision when level whilst also offering great protection when held up.
The armour of the bannermen usually consists of a padded gambeson held under a lamellar cuirass, with a solid helm worn atop their head. The officers of the group have banners affixed to the back, with different marks distinguishing their position and rank, though when fighting in rough land they often forgoe this equipment as it makes them too easily identifiable.
Structure
The Bannermen are commanded by the Banner Captain of Cragtown, reporting under him are 5 Lance Captains, and under each 6 Lance Serjeants at the head of 10 men. One of the Lance Captains has an additional lance under his control, due the returning of a Serjeant though to be dead.
Tactics
The Bannermen primarily fight as skirmishers, engaging enemies in loose order in order to cause disarray in the enemy's lines. If the situation demands, the men may drop their slings and draw blades to fight as agile medium infantry, apept at reinforcing faltering lines and pushing at their foes weak points thanks to their use of small unit tactics applied to such situations.
