Resurrection of the Dead Physical / Metaphysical Law in Slumbering Gods | World Anvil

Resurrection of the Dead

It's happening. Again. Again! I tell you! It's happening! Believe! Look out the windows. No, close the windows. You wouldn't want them to see! Don't you see! They're coming.                                                                               --- that crazy old man in every village
The Resurrection of the Dead is a (un)proven law. Once upon a time, there was a time in The World were the dead would rise and terrorize the living. They would knock on doors and visit people in their sleep, deserving a sort of justice to The World. If this resurrection happens now, no one has ever seen it. Some people say this resurrection left when the gods did, but sometimes during certain times of the month and certain hours of the day, people hear thumping, and howling, and horrible screams for mercy.   But that can't really be the undead. Right?

Manifestation

When the dead rise they usually appear almost ghost like. From far off they will appear white and ethereal, but as they get closer it gets more and more obvious exactly what they are. The undead look like people who got buried alive and were able to crawl their way to the surface. The undead are dirty and their clothes are falling apart. They are unable to think, and only tromb towards a house, where they will haunt and terrorize the people inside.

Localization

This resurrection only seems to happens on nights when there is no moon, or when there is a full moon. The undead will only rise if they were buried in a graveyard. If they were not they cannot rise. If a town does not have a graveyard that town is generally not haunted by undead things. However, towns without graveyards have a pattern. Everybody who lives in those towns seemed to have come from a town with a graveyards. What does that mean? Nothing, perhaps they just don't like graveyards. It doesn't mean the dead actually rise. Right?
