The Captain
The main character of the story. He is the captain of the Crew's Skycutter. He and his crew are free agents (Freelancers) beholden to no one but their word and each other.
He is somewhere between his middle twenties to early thirties. Dark skinned like most. Has black hair and brown eyes. Grew up and raised by the town of Nowe. Ran wild for the most part. He was mainly taken care of and taught by a mechanic and their family. He considers his family to be the mechanic and family from Nowe, as well as, his crew. He is a polyglot of various fluency. Cheerful, charismatic, and wild. Does not stop him from being ruthless though. Rather capable and cunning. Has a tendency to be reckless to his and others detriment however.
He was brave, bold, and reckless enough to take on a woman who was is on the run from the Keepers of the Crystal. Most wouldn't help her due to the bounty but the Captain dared to take her on as their "official" engineer. It's worked out well so far.
The Captain's biggest desire is to explore the world. To search every nook and cranny he and his crew can find. To experience all of the world's wonders and oddities. Whenever going somewhere or finding something new, he always has a sparkle in his eye and a grin on his face. Has a tendency to be reckless that gets him and his crew into trouble. Takes his word seriously; doesn't promise what he can't deliver. Holds loyalty highly.
The Captain has the ability to "hear Skyglass and its hum". For the most part it's a quiet harmonious sound. Issues in an engine tend to cause a discordance in the sound. This ability is proximity based. The only variable to this is the power and size of the chunk of Skyglass. He keeps this ability a close secret. Only two people have found out and one of those is deceased. This ability and knowledge he gained, cause him to "have a way with engines". Only the crew and the mechanic family on Nowe know his proficiency with engines. He is sensitive to sounds and certain stimuli because of his ability. The Captain has taken to wearing noise cancelers (that are disguised from casual view) to drown some of it out. Possibly part of the goggles he wears?
Enjoys resting near the engines. The hum is soothing to him and helps him rest easier.
Once he and his crew had some power, the Captain claimed it as part of his territory and home port.
Unbeknownst to himself, he is the former prince of the Lost Kingdom.
Dislikes and doesn't not follow the Keepers of the Crystal religion.
