Orou's Shields
To bring good fortune and keep away ill tidings, people of the Known World hang Orou's Shields. It is plea meant to invoke Orou, the deity of the Grand Currents, for safeguarding. For this reason, they are otherwise known as "four-fold prayers or blessings".
To receive the best protection, folks hang the Shields outside an entryway. This allows the Shield to ward off bad energy and allow beneficial energy to pass through. They are not just placed outside dwellings but shops, ships, and other entryways.
Orou's Shields are chime like decorations made of Skyglass. It consists of a main base or center piece, with three spires surrounding it. These represent Orou's four forms and each one protects a different aspect. The main base or center piece is the longest part of the Shield. The frame is typically made out of metal, though other materials are acceptable. Other gems and adornments can be used to decorate it, as long as, there is at least one piece of Skyglass.
The higher one is in society, the greater the propensity towards fancier and more elaborate Shields. Some have been as big as a floor lamp!
The Headquarters of the Church of the Grand Current Diety. have numerous amounts and varieties on the grounds. All of them are of high quality and very elaborate.
People have theorized that the tradition may have come about due to the usage of old proximity alarms. People hung up cans and other objects that create a lot of noise when banged together. An intruder would enter, disrupting the objects and causing a great deal of noise. The one who made the alarm would hear the sound and know something was coming. The commotion might also discourage the intruder. As society grew safer, these alarms evolved into a more ornamental purpose.
This tradition was actually started outside the Church of the Grand Current Deity, but the congregation quickly took to the idea.
