Skolotoi Orthodox Church

Divine Origins

The Skolotoi Orthodox Church was once part of various Eastern Orthodox churches Europe but due to constant problems of heresy the entire country of Skolotoi was excommunicated. Constant influx of Confucianism during Mongol invasions was also a major influence on the church. The Protestant Reformation was also a major influence and the Church absorbed many Reformed missionaries to the country.

Worship

The Skolotoi Church has birthed several popular hymns sung in Church Slavonic. While the Skolotoi Church has adhered to common orthodox practices throughout Christianity, it has engaged in some syncretism that eventually resulted in the country's excommunication. Skolotoi venerate icons just as other Orthodox do but also make icons of ancestors they believe to be pious. The Skolotoi Church also worships and venerates the Eucharist as if it were an idol.

Priesthood

The Skolotoi Church considers all believers to a part of the priesthood, but only allows those who take its vows to preach in churches and become bishops. While these vows cannot be taken by women, that does not bar them from missionary work or from being spiritual guardians. Becoming a spiritual guardian is a common profession among the well educated religious of Skolotoi regardless of gender. Some nobles will send their children off to a monastery to become spiritual guardians at a young age. Most spiritual guardians excel in medicine and devote themselves to helping the needy.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Monarchy of Skolotoi is under oath to always be subservient to the Church. This has made many the Church's teachings law throughout the realm. In turn the Church also has undying support for the Monarchy and accuses anyone who fights against it of being in mortal sin. The Revolt and the Federation have a particular dislike of the Church and have tried to reduce its influence on Skolotoi culture through both overt and underhanded means.
