The Great War Overview

The Great War lasted seven years. From 2137 to 2144. At first, it had a proper name: The Krithian Expansion. Soon, it became known as the Krithian-Vadathan war. However, in the second year, the war had expanded to a global event.

State Before the War

Krithia: Before the War, Krithia was undoubtedly the most powerful nation. It held command over the Noble clouds, Silver Clouds, and Stormy Skies.   Vadath: Vadath at the time was only recently breaking away from its war-like nature only to be thrust into war again. The now united people were still seen as giants and brutes. They only controlled the Bitter winds and were the second most resourceful Nation, after Krithia.   Mokso: Mokso Controlled The Windy Wilds and had a fair bit of land in the Umbral Clouds, Jeweled Sky, and Searing Clouds. They were the third most powerful Nation. At the time, they did not suffer the Anarchist problem they suffer now.   Swassaue: Before the War, the Swassau were very powerful. They were almost able to hold their own against Mokso.   The Flock: The Flock was newly formed, compared to many other nations at least. Krithia at the time did not know about the Flock nor the Crow Queen.   Embraw and Ohanzee: At the beginning of the Great War, the Embraw and the Ohanzee were in a cold war. Occasionally they would raid each other, but no armies marched.   Storm Pirates and Talons: The have yet to form from the remnants of Krithia.   Auscia: The Auscia have only a small force of air-ships and they have recently lost the last of their guides.   Riah: Riah have been largely unchanged, they were as they are.   Gnomes and Taugata: Both Nations lived in relative peace, and both were seen as neutral to all other nations.

Alliances Before the War

Krithia held no alliances, as it viewed itself as superior to the other peoples. Taugata and The Gnomes were both neutral. Taugata out of necessity, and the Gnomes because they had already spread to every Nation. Vadath, Swassau, and the Embraw were allied. Embraw and Vadath relations were difficult to establish and maintain, but Vadath protected the Embraw from the Ohanzee while the Embraw supplied weapons to Vadath. Mokso was allied with the Riah, Auscia, and Ohanzee. The Mokso-Ohanzee relationship was similar to the Vadath-Embraw alliance. The Flock held no allies, but they had no enemies either.

How the Great War Came About and Major Events

The first major event of the Great War was Krithias decision to expand. They moved their armies eastward, towards the Unmappable sky. The Swassau could do little to stop them, but they put up a fight. The Vadath were strong allies of the Swassau at the time. Vadath then sent their armies to meet the Krithian onslaught. This was the beginning of the War.   Shortly after this time, Ohanzee realized that Vadath was weakened. They made a deal with Mokso to take the Searing Clouds. The Embraw would have been annihilated by this attack if it weren't for the greed of Krithai. Krithia sent their armies south, as well as east, to take The Sky Below. Auscia at the time could do very little to protect them. Riah was conflicted. They were allies of both the Church and Mokso. So they opted to do nothing. This forced Mokso to split their forces.   Now the three major powers were at war. Krithia split its power towards The Unmappable Sky and The Sky Below. Vadath sent armies to defend the Unmappable sky and to weaken the Ohanzee. Mokso needed to defend the Sky Below as well as weaken the Embraw.   It was then that a single Mokson captain had a devilish and clever plan. His Gnome ally built for him a bomb designed to drill into an island and blow up. The goal was to crack an island in half with this weapon. Initial tests on small, uninhabited islands worked. This Mokson captain knew that if Krithia could move into the Unmappable Sky, then they would attack Vadath directly. This would force Vadath to move forces from the Cloudless Dessert to defend themselves. Thus allowing Ohanzee to take the Searing Clouds quickly. The captain sailed through the Jeweled Sky and Broken Expanse on a stealth mission of the Swassau. He bombed their main island with three strategically placed bombs. The combined might crack the island in two, and it began to sink. This captain was then shot down and killed by Swassau cannons, but the damage was done.   Swassau weakened, they surrendered to Krithia under the conditions that they could save their people. Krithia agreed and moved in. They now attacked Vadath directly. What the Krithians did not consider was The Flock. The Crow Queen herself met with the leader of the Vadath to make a deal. Her people and fae would be safe in Vadath, should the need be required. In return, The Flock would defend Vadath's borders from the Krithians. This allowed Vadath to continue to defend the Embraw.   For nearly a year, the war stayed in this state. Constant struggle. Every few months new technology would be implemented, weapons would be tested, and any number of tactics were used to gain the upper hand. Taugata struggled from this war the most. Many skirmished were fought in its sky. In an effort to end the war a silver-tongued taugata convinced the King of Krithia and the Council of Mokso that the other nation was sending a fleet through the Final Rest. Each nation sent a fleet to meet the other, not knowing the whole battle was set up. Only one ship survived the fight. The survivors of the ship were declared insane, babbling incoherently and mentioning over and over of a monster destroying both fleets.   This allowed Vadath to gain some ground. They moved their forces into The Unmappable sky while the Flock was used to attack the Ohanzee. However, The Riah turned against Mokso. They attacked auscia in order to allow Krithia to move in.   The War continued in this state for a while longer before The Ohanzee and Embraw held a peace conference. The Embraw would send weapons to the Ohanzee once a year, in exchange the Embraw could settle on three islands in the Cloudless Desert. This peace ended the struggle between Vadath and Mokso.   Finally, the long-awaited end of the war was at hand. Vadath, Mokso, and their allies band together to fight back Krithia. Their counterattack was effective enough to push back Krithia all the way into the Noble Clouds. Through the Church of Veritism, a peace talk was held. All of the leaders of every nation met to discuss peace. This is what they decided.   Krithia would give land in the Stormy Sky and the Silver Clouds back to the world. They would be no longer under Krithias direct control, instead, they will be free for any nation to build in. Krithia kept the majority of the land within those two skies, but the loss weakened the kingdom. Taugata would be reimbursed for the losses of the war, paid by Vadath and Krithia. Swassau would be allowed to settle in any land, except in the Umbral clouds. The Flock would be protected from the Church by Vadath. The Embraw and Ohanzee must stay in peace for ten years. Finally, the three major powers must work in alliance, any war started by one would feel the wrath of the other two.

Postwar

Now Himinil is in a shaky alliance. Technology has boomed, travel is more easy and common as warships are now more plentiful. Krithia is still the most influential Nation, but they have been weakened significantly. Krithia, Vadath, and Mokso are now at similar strengths. The other minor powers are free to battle as they wish, and they do. The Talons and Storm Pirates arose from the broken remnants of Krithia.
