Pelniir

The society of the Pelniir is centred around Demoran. It’s an intricate web of houses that have ancient allegiances and even more ancient vendettas. Held in check by a rigorous religious caste system kept firmly in place by Pelniira priests during the Ordo Statitio. To people outside of Demoran these intricate castes are too foreign and difficult to comprehend and most societies eye the Pelniir suspiciously in light of their winged brethren for whom they are named in the common tongue (though few would dare to call them Dragonborn to their face). Even so their large builds, big claws and sweeping tails make any Pelniir a sight to behold.
With Pelniir physiology being so different to most humanoids makes it difficult to distinguish between male and female Pelniir for outsiders, a fact that resulted in the rumour that there weren't any women in the Pelniir race. While it is true that the race is the most egalitarian in regards to gender roles, for those that know what to look for can tell the difference, though even then it’s mostly the choice of apparel that gives away the true gender identity of an individual. This confusion even extends to their patron deity, whom in most popular theology is depicted as female, but is also likely to be found as male in other texts.
Metallic Metallic Pelniir are viewed as the more noble and fair of the two types of Pelniir. Though it’s questionable that this divide has any basis in reality when it comes to individuals of the race it seems too ingrained in the public consciousness by now to change without some sort of cataclysmic upheaval. Metallic Pelniir often find themselves in the upper layers of their local communities and society as a whole, they are trusted more quickly and welcomed in strange communities more warmly and openly. Administrative tasks are often granted to them over their Chromatic counterparts, leaving their different coloured cousins to labour in the fields and the mines. Such is their influence on Demoran society that nearly all the Pelniira clergy are of the metallic variety.
Chromatic The betrayal of Shadowscale during the Withering weighs heavily upon the Chromatic Pelniir. Viewed with disdain, especially by those of Elven kin, they are quickly written off as untrustworthy and unwanted by strangers. Even the most successful Chromatic Pelniir don’t ascend beyond small managerial positions in the sulfur mines of Asht Vaal. There doesn't seem to be any physical limitations that would make the Chromatic Pelniir less proficient than the metallic ones, and from a mental standpoint they don’t seem more inclined towards evil or chaos, though their current standing in Siriande does make it easier for them to gravitate towards that end of the scale.
