Ondath'Cinna

Structure

Ondath'cinna is governed by a council of elders. The largest tribes have representatives on this council. Everybody on the council is equal and with the long lifespans of Elves they never rush to decisions until they've found a compromise that everyone can agree with.

History

Established through the first meeting of the council of elders in the 1642 before the fall, the oldest kingdom and the first mentioned in all written history.   The forest realms of Ondath'cinna house the largest population of elves of all the realms. The loose weave of tribes, counties and regions have been united through a council of wise elders since the beginning of recorded history. In each of the smaller communities the wisest among the elders is chosen as leader. Exactly how one is chosen differs from region to region, tribe to tribe or even time to time. A standing army is trained and kept at the capital, and it consists solely of Elves. Through a myriad of mystical portals this army can be called upon to strike swiftly at any incursion into their lands, doing so often in a guerilla style to avoid casualties and take the most advantage from their own environment. It is this strategy that inspired the name for the army, called Sûlor (Wind of the Woods).   Apart from the demonic wars Ondath'cinna has never officially been at war with another country, in that no Ondath'cinnian soldier has set foot on foreign soil. Following the Pyros Rebellions where Dragonborn claimed land to the north for their own they simply rescinded claim to the salt planes. In the past there have been incursions into their lands from the northern previously referred to as demoran, but even the largest one, 113 years after The Fall, was not retaliated against after they were removed from the lands. That changed when in the year 500 after the fall the world shatters. By 512 the landscape to the north of Ondath'cinna had changed in both a political and a environemntal sense. The new Council of Elders saw an opportunity to move in. For the first time in 2000 years the Sûlor struck outside of the boundaries of their forest realm. Before the year is over the remains of Demoran surrenders and the lands lost during the Pyros Rebellions are once more Ondath'Cinnian territory.   The individual tribes that are scattered throughout the lands are, by and large, solitary and have little to do with the inner workings of the region itself. To keep the protection of the army going, the different villages, towns and cities work together with the capital of A’nlao’tal. Sometimes providing food, sometimes providing precious metals and once every fifty years providing able bodied young men and women for the army during the census. The amount of young elves provided depending on the size of a settlement at the moment of the census.   The Three Islands Near the Ondath'Cinnian mainland lie three islands. One to the north-west, two in east. The north-west island, [ISLANDNAME], was part of the mainland before the world shattered in the year 500. It violently seperated from the mainland. In the past few decades they have gotten adjusted to the challenges of island life and a very active shipping lane has developed between the island and the mainland.   Out of the other two islands, the northernmost island has always been regarded as belonging to Ondath'cinna. That being said, outsiders to the island, even Ondath’Cinnians themselves, dare not dwell there. It is said to be under protection of an ancient, immortal, unicorn called A’A’Sum Adoe (The Granddaughter of Time) by the residents of Ondath'Cinna. During the demonic wars not a single incursion of the invading demons was reported of the island. Refugees seeking sanctuary on the island never returned. The island itself has since been widely branded as forbidden territory by all surrounding kingdoms.   The southernmost island is the place where most of the non-elves of the region live in larger concentration, with a mercantile city on the northern coast creating trade routes with Eneih, Lequinet and now Verslun. There used to be strive between Ondath'Cinna and Telenholm in regards to the rights to this island. Now the residents there hold a demonic presence at back. A feat that has gotten easier when through the shifting of the world the river between the two parts of the island expanded and made quick travel between the two sections impossible. The eastern part of the island is considered a free haven and pirates and buccaneers reside there, seeking refuge in the twilight between civilisation and demonic infestation.   Points of interest A'Nloa'Tal The capital city of the region is at the heart of the ancient forest. The oldest tree, believed to be a sapling to the Mother Oak, at the centre of the city. The city itself spreads not only horizontally but also into the tree tops. On the ground level the lower classess have gathered from across the region, in the hopes of one day ascending the higher levels of the city.   Ruins of Negh'vadah In the kingdom of Demoran there once stood a majestic city. At the centre of the flood plains lay Negh'Vadah. A liberal city in a bureaucratic machine that was Demoran. During the raids in 512 by the Sûlor the residents were displaced, the grand city burned to the ground and the spoils taken by soldiers and looters. It has been mostly abandoned and left to the environment to reclaim ever since.   The Shattered Cliffs In the north-west the mainland and the island of [ISLANDNAME] were once connected. The Shattered cliffs stand as testimony to that. On a clear day you can just see the island on the horizon with the naked eye.
