Lequinet

Established in the year 125 before the fall
Often referred to as ‘The land of the people’, Lequinet is known for its diversity both in its land and its people. Large stretches of meadows and farmland are alternated with forests, hills, tundra and even a large swamp in the north. Although historically there has always been a predominance of humans, many other species also call this kingdom their home. The cities and larger villages all have inhabitants of different races living together (mostly) peacefully. And even though the less densely populated areas feature more communities made up of people of the same race, diversity is a key element of most parts of the country.
For many centuries human regents have resided on the throne in Fjergal. During the last years of the Fall, Lequinet was ruled by a notorious human, Koshmar, who was said to have demonic blood in his veins. His military approach to leadership got him much power in the tumultuous years surrounding the Fall, as he successfully fended off any evil that managed to reach Lequinet from Telenholm, despite the efforts of the Eneih forces. However as time went on and the external threats dissipated, Koshmar got more and more intent on ruling his own people with an iron fist and disposing of people or even entire communities as he seemed fit. Finally several large clans and families worked together to dethrone him and placed a more docile regent on the throne.
Now the true power lies with the powerful families of all races that supply the kingdom with money, goods, food or arms. And more than once a king that was deemed too meddlesome has been replaced by a more suitable candidate by the powerful members of Fjergal’s council. Whatever commodity is in highest demand in the kingdom at the moment will yield the most influence in the council. Status and politics are important parts of life in Fjergal and to varying degree for those living and trading along the major routes between Fjergal, the Kval Harbor in the South and the Grand Trade Market of Verslun in the West. However these ideals hardly penetrate the rest of the country. Cities and settlement outside the trading triangle mostly are left to their own devices and make up their own governments. While the lakes in the south east of the country are surrounded by thriving farming and trading communities, the swamps in the north provide a more secluded life in its untamed wilderness. Not many visitors venture here and most of them come to visit the luxurious city of Fjergal or the famous Free Trade Market of Verslun, where it is said that you can acquire anything you’re searching for, as long as you know who to ask.
