Dormark Maurr
Structure
Dormark Maurr is a plutocratic republic, led by the majority stakeholder that is named President of the Union. Other stakeholders can be appointed responsibilities, like treasurer or head of internal security.
History
The current ruling house acquired a majority stake in the Union in the year 178 after the fall.
The cold peaks of the Anvil Mountains are home to a stout nation of Dwarves. The leadership of the land consists of a trade consortium that formed during the early years of the Demonic Wars. On the economy of iron, mythril and gold exports Dormark Maurr rose to the top of the charts and was able to bolster its own defenses for the inevitable time the war would end.
The war ended. The economic power house of Dormark Maurr never did. The headquarters for the Mythril Resolve resides in Dur Felekan, alongside the biggest mining conglomerate of Siriande, the Anvilheart mining corporation. Owner of this corporation, Zigim Anvilheart, is also president of the Dormark Union. This governmenting body of Dormark Maurr consists of 'stakeholders', governmental seats in The Union are bought, bartered and sold just like any other commodity in the realm. Around 500 years after the fall Anvilheart owned the majority stake at 52% (though most big governmental changes required a two-thirds majority his influence as president of the Kingdom and the Mythril Resolve was substantial). For a society driven by the flow of currency it's surprisingly socialistic in nature. The corporations are expected to give their humanoid workers fair wage, though the same courtesy is not given to their non-humanoid slaves, of which there is a roaring trade. Examples of these are Trolls, Giants, Goblins, Bugbears and other less developed (and more scattered) species. In the past Dragonborn were also a part of this list, during the Demonic Wars this was outlawed following a more tight diplomatic relationship between Demoran and Dormark Maurr.
In the years known as the Age of Recovery the Anvilheart family and the Mythril Resolve organisation their controlling stake slowly dwindled to 47% making pushing through laws more difficult. This allowed the first human council member of the Union, William Turnstiles, to leverage his small stake into big returns. The province of Knurlnien in the east of Dormark Maurr, Turnstile's homestead, was given more liberty than other regions within the Union as a result. Mostly it operates as an independant province and a clause was entered into the statutes of the Union to allow for these additional freedoms.
With its jagged mountains and a thick pine forest defending any outside threat the borders of Dormark Maurr haven't shifted since the establishment of Sebiya in 374 after the Fall. Even the shattering of the world affected the borders little, breaking the nation off from the continental mainland along where the border was. The resulting islands are left mostly to their own devices. Most of the, considerable, military might of the Union remains aimed inward. Not at the citizens, but directed at those that live underneath.
A vast network of natural caverns and artifically made tunnels runs underneath all of Siriande. It was this underground connection that made the explosion in Asht Vaal so devastating. It is commonly referred to as The Underdark.
Drow and Duergar incursions and raids are the biggest threat to settlements in The Union and as such an elite force has been created to battle them on their own turf. They are called the Delvers of the Depths and set out periodically into the Underdark. Some strike teams setting out like this never return, others stay away for years on end, all of them fight to their dying breath in protection of the Union. The Delvers are the only governmental security force in the Union. The regular guard and police forces for the cities and towns are managed through corporately owned security details and mercenary groups.
