Setting the Scene of Sinestris
Rules of the World
What are the fundamental differences in the natural laws of your world compared to Earth? 1. There is magic. 2. The magic is the residual energy leftover by surges of magical resonance between the worlds Destris and Sinestris. The two worlds are connected by visible strings of magical energy, originating deep within the ground and disappearing beyond sight in the heavens. 3. Magical resonance is manifested in storms, leaving behind physical residue which can be used to power technology.Cosmology
How did this world come to be? The worlds of Destris and Sinestris are pocket dimensions located within a pair of seven-league boots, and the 'resonance' happens when they are activated in the world above. This is not known within the world, but some religions worship the strings of energy that connect the two worlds. These strings are commonly called Sky-lines.Geography
What does the geography of your world look like? A vast world of green forests, mountains and rivers lies between interspersed city-states. Our story takes place in the city-state of Semastis, where a Sky-line emanates into the sky from beneath the earth. Expect a Victorian London, with cobbled streets, factories, and lots of rain. Does your Geography have any special properties or features? The Sky-lines are almost translucent at ground level, but once grouped in the heavens, are far more opaque. Their brightness waxes and wanes in hours-long pulses, giving rise to the day/night cycles. There is no sun in Sinestris, though plenty of moons and stars. These are sometimes theorised to be offshoots of the Sky-lines.Initial size of building
What is the initial size of your active campaign setting? My campaign is a city-based lighthearted noir. I'm mostly starting with major locations and meeting spots/ places of interest within the city itself. More places will be created as the story progresses and the city is fleshed out, though one or two brief ventures beyond the city will give the impression of a much wider world.People and their History
