Dremmerazth (drem-mer-raz)

Demographics

Dremorath cities seemed to have been inhabited mainly by mountain dwarves, though it is possible there were more kinds of dwarves within this civilization.

History

Little is known as scholars and archaeologists are still excavating and discovering the ruins, but it is for certain that the Dremorath lived in a large settlement that occupied large parts of the Mantes Ranges. Every expedition reveals more ruins, all connected by a common architectural style, color schemes and inscriptions.

Points of interest

Guard Tower, Skeyfahl
Discovered: D 94, NM 1443   Open for visitors: NM 1510   The remains of a guard tower is possibly the most visited spot on the way to Skeyfahl, and one of the first and oldest discoveries. While broken in half, the tower is one of the only structures with its wall inscriptions still clear. Scholars have used Dremorath text from this structure to make inferences about the culture and the rulers of the time.   One of the reasons the scholars assume that the Dremorath were an advanced civilization was through the materials used in building the tower: stone infused with metals (found only on Mantes Ranges) that increased its durability. However, considering that so far only one other tower of such materials was discovered elsewhere, it is believed that these were the most recently built structures, possibly the last to be built, before the sudden disappearance of the civilization.   The tower contains spiralling stairs that lead to the top, which would've been a lookout. The interiors weren't bare, but possibly had been occupied by those who were at the tower, evidenced by the utensils and tools found at the entrance, as well as in the storage hatch.
Circle of altars, Haggrum
Discovered: D 265, NM 1485   Open for visitors: NM 1512   One day's travel north of Haggrum takes you to an intricately designed stone formation, which looks like it was part of a temple. Instead of just one altar, though, there are eight altars arranged in a circle, with a huge circular stone platform in between that has more than 2,000 words of text etched on its face.   On the west side of the circle of altars is a deep gash in the land, about 12 feet in length, that looks like it was snaking its way to the centre but narrowed down till it disappeared two feet away from the platform. There are glimpses of lava visible at the widest point of the gash, and the area immediately around this gash is ashen black. Scholars say it looks like a lava burn.   Academics are still trying to decipher the Dremorath text, which is written in dwarvish script but does not make sense in modern dwarvish; it is possibly a long dead version of the language. Considering that this language hasn't been found to be used anywhere else around the rest of Dremmerazth, it can be assumed that this was a religious inscription of an even more ancient time.
Sarrenorra cave network
Discovered: D 101, NM 1515 (most recent)   Not yet open for tourists; visitors can enter only with Borrozian Crown approval   At the foot of the Mantes Ranges, smack between Borrozia and Timberwind, is an ancient semicircular, metallic door. It's easy to miss among the thick Kyor foliage, considering the copper has turned green and stubborn vines grow across its hinges. This door opens to a huge cave network, most of which is still unmapped and uncharted.   The main pathway (dubbed Sarrenorra Entryway), leads directly from the metal gate toward a major intersection of paths. All these paths, including the main path, have metallic interlocking tiles that resemble a road. Along this road are small rooms or living spaces in certain carved-in sections, which has signs of occupancy; ancient tools, utensils, clothing baskets, and stone tablets with art were found in mostly healthy condition.   It is still unclear where these networks lead to, what the intention was with installing a heavy metallic door, and what purpose this network serves. Scholars think that this network was used for mining (evidenced by mining tools found in few rooms) or as workshops (evidenced by large smelters and forges near lava-rich spots). Recent discovery of a large and open cave floor in one of the paths also suggest that, especially in later times, this cave was used as a permanent shelter for a large number of people (evidenced by more tools, utensils and even a sewage line).
