{WASC 2022} Nistar

Nistar is a type of cave mushroom that only grows in the vicinity of the Sodalite caves inhabited by the priestesses of the Buried Sun. It only being found there has made it a very important element into the ritual practices of the priestesses.

Histoire

The first priestess of the Buried Sun found Nistar as she got lost in the Sodalite caves, and only survived eating that mushroom, and drinking the water of the underground rivers. She noticed the effects of the mushroom after some time, as she got closer and closer to what would eventually be known as the Buried Sun. Nistar has an effect on the hormonal production of the human body, greatly favoring estrogen and inhibiting testosterone and androgens. The physical changes going with that hormonal imbalance were considered by the priestess as the will of a God, her resolve only strengtening when she found the Buried Sun's room, a gigantic underground room whose walls were covered by brilliant sodalite, and at the center of which lay a pillar of near-pure sodalite, all crystals illuminated by the radiations of the Rift lying in its heart. Fortunately, as Nistar grows in radiation-heavy caves, consumming it also offers some protection from those radiations, which also has been a factor in the incorporation of Nistar into most meals the Buried Sun Priestesses take.

Exécution

Nistar is grown and harvested from the banks of the rivers. It looks like a lichen more than an actual mushroom, in dark amber colored, curly-edged leaves rampant on the cave floor. It is then dried by fire, and ground into a powder, which is incorporated in most meals like a condiment - adding an earthy, savory sort of taste to meals. It is also used to make a paint, which is ritualy used to draw intricate patterns on the priestesses' skin.

Respect

The nistar rites are observed daily in their different forms. The skin markings are done after each bath, and each priestess has their own preferred designs.
