Anois Boat building

boat building- once a year the young men when coming of age (16) compete against each other to build the biggest and fastest boat. It is supposed to carry 20 warriors. Once the boat is built, there is a race where all the warriors are on it and they race around the sacred statue out in the ocean and back to the beach. The top 10 in the results will have their choice of eligible young ladies to take for their bride. The boat is handed over to the Brides father as a gift. Only the top 10 get to do so. The others have their boats tied together and a huge bonfire is made. The non top 10 will have to start over from scratch and will then have to petition the fathers for their daughters hand in marriage
