The shadow

The shadow is a phenomenon occuring in the world of Shyrosa . Periodically strange phenomenon will occur in different parts of the continent or the surrounding islands. These can be beneficial or dangerous, but it is always clear that is something otherworldly.
The shadow is phenomenon that has always been a part of the Shyrosan world, and all cultures in the world has had to in some way or another find ways to cope with these strange happenings.
When the shadow affects an area it is generally called a shadow incursion. And while some welcome them, most seek to drive the shadow back and away from their world.

Manifestation

Every manifestation of the shadow is different. Sometimes it will simply be a disturbance in the flow of time or of the weather patterns in an area, these shadow incursions are generally seen as harmless and will go away after a time. But others are more malicious or dangerous, examples include whole villages being afflicted with insanity or being physically mutated.
The worst sort of incursion is when autonomous creatures from the shadow emerge into an area, these are generally hostile and are extremely dangerous. Sometimes these creatures are capable of communication and planning and will seek to conquer land for unknown masters from their own realm.
When creatures from the shadow enter the physical realm it is often characterised by an increase in shadow strength as well as the appearance of unexplainable cloud covers that will block out the sun from the area were the shadow is currently active.

Localization

Shadow incursions are generally located to a small amount of area. In case of time or weather disturbances the area affected will often not exceed ten kilometers squared. But in cases where the incursion is more akin to an invasion it is more the effects of the incursion will follow the creatures in the physical world.
