House of Serenity

Welcome to the House of Serenity. Please, don't hesitate to ask one of us healers if you need anything. Know that you are safe here, and everything you say to any of the healers will be kept confidential. Nothing you tell us will leave this building. Now, what brings you here?

A Place for Healing the Mind

While ordinary healing establishments focus on healing the body, the House of Serenity is a place to heal the mind. This is the only institution on Shireon that deals with ailments of the mind.

Those who manage to travel to Mynelion to seek teatment in the House of Serenity will in the absolute majority of cases either be healed or learn ways to cope with their ailment. Only in the rarest of cases the healers won't know how to at least deal better with a wounded mind, and every time they encounter a new case they don't know how to work with they will start investigate what the ailment is and what can be done with it.

A Serene Location

A lot of ailments of the mind might make the sufferer sensitive to loud sounds and busy surroundings. This is why the House of Serenity is located in a more secluded corner of Mynelion. The building is surrounded by a garden containing beautiful flora and several spots to sit in peace. All areas belonging to the House of Serenity are kept as calm as possible, and everyone inside are told to not raise their voice if they don't have to, and try to not run or jump around too much.

Of course, these rules are enforced with an understanding that this might not always be possible. Sometimes raising one's voice is needed, and especially children will have a hard time not running around, as some examples. However, the healers here will do their best to contain the noise to as small an area as possible, and try to calm the situation whenever possible.

The Healers of the Mind

To become a healer of the House of Serenity is not an easy task, and not suited for anyone. The person needs to be calm and filled with compassion and understanding, yet also have the ability to be firm when needed. They will need to go through vigorous training, both in how to work towards healing or managing ailments of the mind and how to de-escalate and stop any dangerous situations that might occur without restraining any patients.

The work of a healer of the mind is mostly to talk with the patients, listen to them, and either help them heal or help them deal. Yet they are also peacemakers within the establishment if something happens, they are expected to keep the garden in order, and they are teachers of the new and upcoming healers of the mind, if any students are interested and suited for the role.

As there are very few patients due to the remote location of Mynelion, there isn't a huge demand of healers of the mind. This is both fortunate and unfortunate. There are generally not many people who are both interested and suited for the role, and the few who are both are generally just enough to keep the House of Serenity going. On the other hand, if more people had been trained it might've been possible to open establishments outside Mynelion as well.

My wish is to establish similar institutions in every large city. Mynelion is hard to get to for, well, everyone, and I know that a lot of people all across Shireon could benefit from a stay here, so having similar establishments in places that are easy to travel to would make it easier for everyone to get the help they sorely need.

But alas, there aren't many healers of the mind, and we are all needed here.

Words from a Patient

"I've been coming here a couple of times now for my memory scars, and I must say that the things I've learned here is helping me practically every day. I'm eternally grateful for the healers working here."

Seems like a nice and peaceful place. Do they generate enough money to be completely independent? I imagine it would be more difficult to receive donations if they are so far away from everyone else...

I hope that their work becomes seen as necessary and they therefore get more healers of the mind. Must be a hard job.
