Dziki Łów (Wild Hunt)

Like wings the sound over woods was borne, In terror the dwarf dug deeper, While overhead a mad hunting-horn Aroused the horrified sleeper.   Legends of the wild hunt have been told since ancient times, there are many varying accounts but one theme of this myth is prevalent in them all, hunting, by which a group of riders on mounts, usually horses or deer, rush through the sky with mad intent, accompanied by hounds and other beasts.   The wild hunt only appears before times of great struggle, war, grief, or disaster. Depending on what part of the world you come from descriptions and beliefs of the hunt differ: the Durrani Conclave believe the hunt to be elves or fey creatures that harvest mortals for sustenance during the long winters, the Everstein Empire believe the hunt to be spectral riders of undead collecting souls for their horde, whereas the Colbaria Dynasty see the hunt as a force of nature that controls the balance of mortal reproduction; if one empire grows too large while others slum, the hunt will prey on the empire until its numbers deplete and balance is brought back.   These differences in belief of their purpose aside, one thing they can all agree on is before the hunt's arrival a horn will be heard blasting through the skies, this horn is blown by the Horned King, the hunt's leader. Many have taken the mantle of the Horned King throughout history, or so we believe. Such beings are Odin, Hern, and Erastil. The King's motives are unknown and no mortal has knowingly come into contact with him, if a mortal were to invoke the hunt they would do so through one of the hunt's Monarchs. The hunt is known to not care for material wealth, nor is it known to have patience with mortals who summon them for trivial affairs. The hunt lives for the chase, the thrill of taking down powerful foes. If you can afford their price, there's not many they can't take down. Or so the legend says.   They thought that his doom was sealed for aye, By no prayers to be diminished: To hunt until the last Judgment Day, Till World and Time were finished.
