Shattered System

A united Humanity spread across the solar system and started to take its first tenative steps beyond - when a strange object, initially thought to be a planet, appeared in our system.   It was a prison.   The launch of our first extrasolar ships triggered the facility's defenses. A blast of unstable gravity echoed across our system, killing millions and shattering Ganymede and Earth's moon.   We sent a team. To investigate. To find out why.   But the team broke the seal.   Monstrous, ghostlike aliens emerged, and wreaked havoc upon our system. Over three billion died in the ensuing war. Fifteen years in, humanity on the verge of defeat, the enemy suddenly retreated beyond the heliopause.   ... That was four hundred years ago. Shattered nations rule old colonies. The threat of the aliens' return is always present, yet the ever-present specter of humanity's own flaws remain, as these nations squabble among themselves. Technologies developed during the war to produce supersoldiers have broken beyond the military spheres and changed what it means to be human forever. Our system is Shattered. Broken.   But can it be mended in time...?
