Renshe courting

Renshe are an all male tribe and must find females from other tribes to bear their young and continue their bloodlines. Through the use of talismans they show their good faith and rarely are females hurt in the process. Should a male harm a female they are punished by the Renshe and the female is allowed to return to her tribe with gifts of apology.

History

The renshe are a war like tribe where males fight and females raise their offspring. However the other tribes are not defenseless leaving causing them to have a high fatality rate compared to the other tribes. Using special talismans they guarantee their wives bear only sons, and that the sons inherit the father's tribe instead of the mother's as is standard. This leaves them little choice except to claim wives from other tribes, which can be done in several ways.

Execution

There are several ways this can be conducted. The oldest and most common is to kidnap a female, bring her to your village, present her with the talisman, then decide the terms of her stay. Some promise a single son in exchange for their freedom (however they must stay to raise the son, keeping them in the tribe for several years longer than planned) while others agree to stay in exchange for a simple home life.   A second less common way is like the above but it occurs at the females village. The fathers then come back several years later and claim their children.   Third and the most common among modern Renshe is to court a female in secret, then when a raid on her village occurs to 'kidnap' her and take to back to your village. Such instances are uncommon but were becoming increasingly popular up until the plague came.

Components and tools

Perspective wives are always given a Renshe Wive's Talisman. These are what guarantee their wives bear only sons, and that the sons inherit the father's tribe. But they also give the females several defenses against males wishing to hurt them. This is a sign of good faith that if a husband acts out the wife will not be harmed.

Participants

The only two involved in this are the couple. Unless you count the raiding party the males arrive with.

Observance

The raids are erratic at best, often during times of abundance when the Renshe can support a growth in its populations and when other tribes will not be retaliate as severely should they be raided.
