Vandogan Peoples

The Vandoga region sits to the east of the mountains, to the north of The Wakari Coast, and relies on sea trade for their active trade. Though the land receives less rain than Chrenada, due to the effect of the mountains, it still boasts large swathes of grazing plains, and it has developed breeds of sheep and goats which both thrive on these plains and yield exceptional leather.   Horses are the largest of the domestic animals, followed distantly by pigs and the larger breeds of goats, but of course no one would think to raise horses for leather. They are too difficult to breed and to raise to manage in larger numbers -- even the royal herds can be counted on the fingers of just two or three grooms -- and far too valuable to slaughter. (The Fall of King Frederick III) While horsehide can be a conspicuous luxury item, it is impractical for large scale use.   The Vandogan leather markets, then, are essential for labor across the nations. Both armor for soldiers and harnesses for slaves are made from the heavier skins, with other grades providing material for everything from boots to bookbindings.

Culture

Common Etiquette rules

Vandogan trade is full of unspoken assumptions, polished to ritual in social exchange. For example, the acceptance of a poured drink, then drunk simultaneously with a host, is acceptance of a contract, as binding as a signature or seal. Apprentices are schooled to sit absolutely silently while in meetings with Vandogan merchants, lest they accidentally offer a discount, accept an exchange, or make a proposal.

Common Dress code

Merchants from Vandoga can be easily recognized by the red sashes across their chests. This sash indicates a seller in their home markets, and most continue to wear them even in other areas, such as Alham, Cascais, or The Wakari Coast.
