Background: The Displaced in Shadows of Evermore | World Anvil

Background: The Displaced

You first appeared in Evermore 25 years ago during the Convergence with no memory of your life before. Despite this apparent amnesia, you possess knowledge and understanding that others do not. You’ve never completely fit in with those around you. Sometimes it seems like you’re thinking on a different wavelength, or that you’re not quite at ease in the city. Somehow you just don’t feel at home in Evermore. This led you you to a choice: become Integrated into the city and find your place, or find out if your past can be Reclaimed somewhere else.   Skill Proficiencies: Insight and Arcana (if Integrated), or Survival and Nature (if Reclaimed).   Tool Proficiencies: One set of artisan’s tools   Languages: Your choice of Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, or Delterik   Equipment: 50 feet of silk rope, a set of artisan's tools with which you are proficient, a trinket from your past (but you are uncertain of its purpose or significance, yet you keep it with you because it feels important), a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gold.   Integrated Feature: Out-of-the-Box Thinker   You decided to integrate into society, and you’ve discovered that some people actually appreciate your different way of thinking. You pick up on things easily, which allows you to pick up odd jobs and offer your aid to others, granting you a modest lifestyle within the city, whether or not you have a permanent job. Folks are also more likely to pay attention when you make an observation. As long as someone is not hostile toward you and of sound mind, they will provide you with an opportunity to speak and consider your wisdom. Your DM might rule that some people are not open-minded enough or may be unable to respond with reason.     Reclaimed Feature: Uncanny Understanding   Having felt ever at-odds with the city, you have decided to reclaim your past. The natural world affords you much greater comfort, and despite your unfamiliarity with Evermore, you feel a connection to the wilds. You are drawn to hidden shortcuts that you know, but do not know how you know. You can travel through woods, mountains, hills, and other natural areas in almost half the time by following these shortcuts.
