Character Creation, Rewards and House Rules

Before creating a character, you should read Arriving at Shaddock Station.

Character Creation

Characters start with species XP + 10 (as if they had used obligation/duty). After creation, characters also start with 40 earned XP. They also start with 3000 credits to spend non-restricted gear. Anything else, including lightsabers, will be handled as GM rewards. However, keep in mind you are going to a shadow port rife with elements of scum and villainy. People notice people with nice items. It'd be a shame if they were to.... go missing. (Read the Arriving article, above, for more info on theme).
All characters should be in the RPGSessions database for gameplay purposes. If you need help with this, ask on the #general-star-wars-chat channel on the Discord server; a player or admin will be glad to assist.

Character Creation Caveats

Please do not play children, abuse victims, "dark"/tortured characters, edgelords, or other characters leaning too far into adult themes or characters whose death or dismemberment might cause involvement in a mercenary-based, mostly light-hearted game involving a lot of combat and the like. Some concepts (such as children as heroes) work in the Star Wars universe is that they have plot armor and the plot is written around them being a child and having reasons to be where they are and not die, whereas playing a child as a PC leads to the possibility that the child could die, have a leg blown off, get captured, get eaten, harmed, or otherwise hurt and we don't want GMs or players to get triggered over killing children or having them injured and making an otherwise lighthearted game a nightmare of child combatants and very small artificial limbs. As well, without a built-in tie to the game, players should avoid playing concepts which most people would not willingly adventure with (Hutts, slavers, etcetera) to avoid conflict in character before the game even starts.

Character Creation After Game Start

Characters will be built with XP at the level of all the other characters. However, because characters built after initial creation with large amounts of XP can result in builds that are difficult to run for, please speak to a GM when making a new character. This will also be when your starting gear is determined for characters that begin after the start of the campaign.

Rewards

Players get 10XP every Saturday at 11:59PM. GMs are encouraged to give out rewards that meaningfully interact with their story. Custom items are welcome, but by default only usable at the table of the GM who gave it out. Custom items will come with a "Default Profile" that is identical to one piece of gear from the books to be used at other GMs' tables.

Using Canon

The only 100% canonical sources we are using are the nine Star Wars movies, as these are the only sources we can reasonably count on every player and GM to be familiar with. Additional material, such as other movies, animated series, books, TV shows, Wookiepedia, and comics *can* be used as basic guides, but GMs may alter them (or have changed elements thereof) based on story needs or GM theme.

House Rules

  • The Morality system will not be used.
  • No autofire on 1 advantage.
  • We may add other house rules as events warrant.
  • GMs may have or institute any table rules they like and have final say in the games they run. GM-specific rules will be posted to World Anvil.
  • We reserve the right to ask you to work with us to change your character if needed. Sometimes, things are approved or decisions made which need to be changed for the game to continue running smoothly; rather than having a house rule for everything, we prefer to work with the player to resolve any issues that might arise.

Relation to Tales from Nigita Season 1

Shaddock Station takes place five years after the events of Tales from Nigita Season 1. The ongoing stories from Tales from Nigita will be covered in the Tales from Nigita campaign headed by Bill; however, going forward from May, events that happen in that timeline are not part of the Shaddock Station timeline.
