The Sanitary Hazard Inspection Technicians

Contracted adventurers who work for the city to maintain the integrity of the sewers and waterways throughout the city. Where the Watch and the Flaming Fist keeps an eye topside, these technicians work as the first line of defense below the surface fighting monsters and criminal elements to keep order above.

Structure

Sewer Rats fall under the authority of the Master of Drains and Waterways, Duke Thalamra Vanthampur. The commander of the S.H.I.T. is the Sheriff of the Sewers, Ser Silvershield. Sewer Rats are adventurers under the employ of the city. Sanitary Hazard Inspection Technicians are considered freelance contractors who serve at the pleasure of their commander. As freelancers they are granted no pension or retirement plan, expenses incurred in the line of duty are not covered by the city, and the city cannot be held liable for a technicians likely death or dismemberment that may occur while performing their duties. There is a technicality that paladins working as a Sewer Rat are to be temporarily deputized and granted an additional copper piece in addition to the coin earned for completion of their contracts.

Culture

Sewer Rat is an insulting term for those adventuring parties that work in the sewers. Sewer Rats are infamous for smelling foul, destroying indiscriminately, and living down to their famously low reputation. Most adventurers look down on them. No self-respecting party would ever become Sewer Rats.

Public Agenda

Ensures the public waste removal systems continue to work as well as clear out various monsters in the sewers as required for the people of Baldur's Gate.

Assets

The Sewer Rats are severely underfunded. The headquarters is rundown and leaks when it rains and hasn't had a fresh set of paint ever. The organization receives most of it's funding from taking a portion of the money earned from the contracts given out by the Job's Clerk and the various guilds in Baldur's Gate. There is a monthly stipend provided by taxes from the city however the amount of funding from this has been slashed virtually every year since its founding especially once Thalamra Vanthampur joined the Council of Four.
