She’s not famous. She has no renown. She has no following.
She has an affinity for lost things. Abandoned things. Places that were once alive and vibrant. Places hungry to tell their stories. Places that yearn to be found.
Her specialization is navigation and cartography. She can find her way around a maze, suss out secrets, and read the shapes left behind when civilization has been long gone. They speak to her, telling her the stories of what they once were, and what they have become. People once lived there. Now they are alone. Nyssa is driven to learn their stories and uncover their memories.
You see, she’s just as lost and alone as they are.
While others are building new things, creating new lives and new stories, she has nothing but the past. She has nothing new to build from. She has only herself. She doesn’t get along like the others do. They’re too busy, too noisy, too alien.
The past is peaceful. The raw, sharp edges have been worn away by time. The violence is over. The threads of fate are unspooled. They need only be rediscovered. Reawoken. Stirring the ashes of the past finds the shape of its beauty.
She’s been working her way through the landscapes around Hollow City, turning over ignored stones and finding harder to reach places, sometimes through sheer stubborn will. She makes maps for extra coin and sometimes picks up scouting jobs. Mainly whatever she can do without having to deal with people.
Her only company is the annoying talking magpie that she set free from a merchant’s cage, mainly because she can’t seem to get rid of him. But in the end, at least he’s someone to talk to.
Nyssa spent a while acting as a guide for expeditions into the first few levels of the Labyrinth and participated in mapping them out, but eventually decided that she missed sunlight and rain too much to continue.
