The Fortress Tower of Eodhra Dana

A Dragon's Residence

Eodhra Dana stands as an abandoned yet imposing fortress at the edge of a great forest, surrounded by a sea of dilapidated structures that are in the process of being reclaimed by nature. The angular stone fortress features a number of crenelated walkways connecting six towers, and a huge central tower that stretches into the sky, overlooking the nearby forest and much of the surrounding region. Unlike the rest of the city that once surrounded it, the fortress itself is in remarkably good repair.   Surrounding the various decaying structures clustering around the fortress are the remains of an outer wall, with parts of it still standing and parts of it fallen in.   The flagstones of ancient roads mark what were once the main streets of the city, leading off into the distance where they disappear amidst the underbrush.   To those with a keen eye, the unmistakable claw marks in the area are an all too obvious warning of Eodhra Dana's Dragon resident.

Purpose / Function

Eodhra Dana was once a waystop between Scaratir, and the rest of the empire of Koralon, as it was at the time. It also served as a military outpost to keep the barbarians of the Hills of Ancio in check, securing the safe passage of travelers.   It acted as a popular stop for wayfarers and traders en route to Jherid Fel, and housed a small community of scholars researching the stone pillars of the nearby Waythenwood.

Alterations

While the city of Eodhra Dana has since crumbled into ruin, the central fortress and its tower remains, and even shows evidence of more recent renovations—including a patchwork mending of what must have once been a gaping hole in the side of the great stone tower, now covered up by a series of wooden planks.   Even so, the fortress is hardly in good shape, with vines and ivy having completely overgrown some surfaces.

History

Originally little more than a small village, Eodhra Dana grew to become a notable landmark after the Scale King united Koralon, Scaratir and Kyrantir under his own banner, and subsequently ordered a fortress built to keep the peace over the area and facilitate travel, strengthening the connection between regions that had once been separate.   Centuries later, the Desolation of Scaratir effectively voided Eodhra Dana's purpose. As travelers and merchants turned into refugees and monster attacks, trade dried up and people stopped coming altogether. Being little more than an outpost on the outskirts of a region that noone cared about any more, Eodhra Dana was gradually abandoned, until its great fortress stood silent and alone, left behind by its inhabitants as conflict called them elsewhere.   Years later, a Dragon takes up residence in the fortress, and before long, the prideful king of Koralon, Varangian, summarily challenges, attacks, and is defeated by the Dragon, who exacts an unusual toll on the powerless king; the Dragon would become ruler and protector of Koralon, and would be left alone to do as he pleased with Eodhra Dana, while Varangian and his descendants would serve as regents of Koralon.   The Dragon has remained undisturbed in Eodhra Dana ever since, having taken no action to interfere with Koralon or its Regent Kings.
