Sepheris Secundus

A planet of white and light blue gray clouds covering veins of a dark interior landscape. It is a planet wide over-continent with no oceans except for a small pocket of water at the polar north and south. It is an arctic climate of mountains, forests, and arid planes, but most of the natural landscape has been altered with extensive open mine works.   The climate is arctic year around while the atmosphere is laden with moisture most of the water comes from underground or from the many natural geysers that pock mark the landscape. Weather is cold with frequent storms and blizzards. There is very little direct sunlight penetrating the cloud cover. Calmer days are a hazy cream colored brown with a yellow twilight at midday.   It is the largest exporting planet in the Calixis Sector, it is the top supplier of ore, crude metals, natural fuel. WIthout this flow of resources the trade and economic health of the sector would be greatly diminished.   It is a populated world of 12 billion souls in a fuedal monarchy, Queen Lachryma III presiding. It is a world of rich minteral wealth but in almost every other way it is poor. There is very little Adepta presens3e save for a single Arbites Precint Fortress and a handful of scattered clergy of the Ministorum.   The local population of nearly endless surfs are controlled by the Barons or noble families appointed by the Queen. The Imperial tithes are astounding and while the Queen always meets or exceeds the export demand, the pressure takes its toll as it trickles down the sociopolitical and economic ladder. Surfs are little more than slaves. Each is born into ownership of their local Baron and 9/10ths of what their labor yields are collected by their masters. The surfs work the mines, often the same mine as their parents and grand parents before them.   The cruelty of many Barons are well known. For a surf to be disobedient, question or have ideas above their station is to invite the unthinkable. But outbursts and riots do happen and each Baron harbors their own private army. With the monopoly of technology and education strictly reserved for the elite most disturbances are put down quickly, as the modern grenade, lasgun and chainblade easily overwhelm thoe with picks, shovels, and scavanged tools.
