Brooker-Kowane Therapy

Overview

Vaneecha Abbey became the leading site for the treatment of Celestial addicts during the 1030s and 1040s. This reputation was brought about through the work of Jasa Brooker and Zivini Kowane, a pair of nuns working at the Abbey in the mid-1040s. Their treatment for the withdrawal symptoms of addiction led to a significant increase in the success of breaking the dependence of their patients on the drug. Since the 1040s, the Abbey has used this treatment as their primary tool in assisting those who seek their help.

Discovery

Jasa Brooker and Zivini Kowane discovered the treatment while helping the celestial addicts who came to Vaneecha Abbey in search of help. They had battled against the addiction in their patients for many years. Learning how the drug was made, from the seeds and leaves of the Million Flower, allowed them to look into using the same plant in their treatment.   They began by slowly lowering the dose of the drug to their patients, but found that this did not stop the addiction, merely curved it slightly and patients would become violent to get more. Along with this, as the drug was illegal in both Yzel and Eoion, their only option was to buy it from Seraph Rae, the criminal organization manufacturing most of the drug and people the Abbey did not want to support.   Instead of buying the drug, they began growing million flowers in the Abbey and mixing the petals, which contained very small amounts of the precursor to celestial, with various other herbs already in use to treat anxiety, depression, and convulsions, and forming them into pills or as loose leaf tea. They found that this helped patients ease their symptoms and did not generate further addiction. As the treatment continued, they lowered the dosage of petals until there were only the non-addictive elements left.

Access/Availability

The treatment has been shared with other medical establishments treating celestial addiction. However, the legal limbo of the growth of million flowers makes creating the first doses difficult in places under heavy scrutiny, such as in cities. Rural centers are more able to grow it and thus have better access to the treatment.
