Shields of Honor

The Shields of Honor is a mercenary organization that provides law enforcement to settlements that are too small to create their own law enforcement. The Shields of Honor have detachments in many settlements throughout the (INSERT REGION) and have gained a remarkable reputation.   The reason they are so popular for the smaller settlements is that the settlement would rather pay the guild fee to have a few guards rather than eat the cost of starting up a department. Perhaps it is also possible that they town mayor is just lazy, or the guild has sweetened the deal.   The Shields of Honor do more than just law enforcement; some of the additional services they provide are, protection contracts for persons or caravans, military aid, and financial loans.

Services

Law Enforcement

When providing law enforcement the Shields of Honor sends a detachment of trained guards to keep watch over the settlement. The detachment brings with them transportable guard houses and basic living supplies, the only thing they request from the settlement other than money is food. Some settlements have made good relations with the guards and invite them to their homes for meals.

Protection Contracts

The Shields of Honor will provision a person or caravan with armed guards when requested, these guards are less concerned with upholding the law and are more focused on keeping the customer safe.

Military Aid

In times of strife some factions have hired the Shields of Honor to provide military service, the Shields of Honor only accept military contracts to protect those factions against evil ones. For example if two human settlements are at war, the guild won't get involved.

Financial Loans

Since the guild brings in a lot of money they also provide some settlements with loans, another way the town may also receive a loan is by accepting guards that they cannot pay for immediately but will pay in full with interest in the future. Sometimes these loans get out of hand and the Shields of Honor have threatened a mayor or two into signing lifetime law enforcement contracts due to consistent withheld payments or failure to pay at all.
