Legio Verus, Collogia Titanicus Organization in Seelen Stream Sub-Sector: A Warhammer 40k Setting | World Anvil

Legio Verus, Collogia Titanicus

Processing the single greatest destructive power that can be fielded within the sub-sector, the titans of the Legio Verus represent one of the most dedicated defenders of the Seelen Stream for the past twelve millennia. It is from their titan bays on Hephaestus Gamma the legion deploys a score of its awe-inspiring god machines to march in the Emperor Omnissiah's holy name.
(Heraldic Crest of Legio Verus. Officially adopted in its current form after onset of the Horus Heresy to denote loyalty to the loyalist factions of the Synod of Hephaestus)

Falling under the Divisio Militaris, the legion follows the typical maniple and demi-maniple structure. The key differences however can be in its higher echelons with the command of the legion forming a senate, with each ten maniples electing a representative among them to participate. It is in this Senatorum that the Grand Master is selected and from where the legion weighs the myriad requests for aid across the the Imperium.    The Grand Master station is seen as a temporary position and unlike other legions, a "first among equals" approach is taken among the Grand Masters. This is seen as to ensure that the Grand Master does not lose its martial prowess due to the more mundane requirements of operating such a large and far flung legion. A term of a Grand Master is 50 years and in that time, their maniple acts as the defenders of the legions bastion fortress on Hephaestus Gamma.

The legion is currently listed as a secundus grade legio with 86 engines under its control. The composition of its engines matching its doctrine, and as such is composed of heavier chassis that suit the defensive or heavy support role they are famous for. Below is listed the full engine strength from smallest to largest of their god-machines.
  • 14: Dire Wolf Heavy Scout Titans
  • 11: Reaver Titans
  • 25: Warbringer Nemesis Titans
  • 28: Warlord Titans
  • 6: Warmaster Heavy Battle Titans
  • 2: Imperator Titans
These engines are thus supported by significant ground forces of trained armsmen and legion fleet that resides in low orbit around Hephaestus Gamma. The legion always seeing it as a priority to be able to defend and transport itself between warzones after the Horus Heresy, its transport fleet boasts a significant arraignment of craft capable of engaging in larger scale void warfare to include no less than three battleships.

The Legio Verus has its roots far back in the Dark Age of Technology. While records remain scant, it was found that prior to M28, the legion did possess three Dire Wolf class scout titans along with a handful of knight suits. These had been believed to all what was left after the original population of Hephaestus Gamma fell to ruin after the rise and subsequent war with the Men of Iron.    With the reconnection with Mars and the formation of the Synod of Hephaestus in late M28, the revealing of ancient warehouses and recovering of long lost STC templates revitalized the proto-legion. Now able to begin reforming its strength and drive off the last of the rampant thinking machines of their homeworld, the proto-legion held its first Senatorum to elect its first Grand Master to lead the now unified peoples within their holdings on the northern hemisphere of the planet.    As the revelations of rediscovery and rebuilding took hold on Hephaestus Gamma, to the south of the planet a rival proto-legion formed. Holds of Orgol, famed for their tenacity and close quarters fighting rapidly subdues the southern hemisphere and struck a tenuous peace with Verus, both seeing little need for conflict at the time due to the shear quantity of resources and space for both organizations to exist.
