Cinder Cotton

A processed stimulant, Cinder Cotton originally came from the tribes of the Raktana Steppe. The base plant used in the production of Cinder Cotton is a hardy fungi found along the Raktana Steppe called Sharatuli or Grey Cotton. The plant took it's name from the appearance as a fibrous tuft much like cotton, though grey in colour. This fungi was poisonous, but would cause a exponential increase in the adrenal glad of the person consuming it. Warriors would consume the fungi raw, in hopes that temporary boost would allow them to escape dire predicaments. While that could be the case, the toxicity caused from consumption would invariable kill the user soon after.   Over time, some more inventive Xamedana began to experiment with making the powerful drug less deadly. This lead to the process of coating the fungi in layers of medicinal and chemical reagents that would neutralized the toxic elements before entering the digestive system proper. When chewed the chemical reaction created a unpleasant mild burning on the tongue and throat, as well as a very unpalatable metallic taste. Sill, this process neutralized much of the toxicity generated by the fungi, while only mildly lessening the stimulant. The resulting drug took it's name from it's appearance of cotton like fungi and the burning sensation when consumed; thus, Cinder Cotton.   In the present day, the drug is highly illegal in Shenadah, who wish to distance themselves as much as possible from the Raktana origins. In both Gan'Vende and Estrella, the drug is also illegal, though the penalties are far less severe. Only in Bakiaph and Krysaton is the drug fully legal, albeit for very different reasons. In Bakiaph, the stimulant is quite popular with scholars wishing to not let sleep get in the way of their extensive studies and research. Krysaton on the other hand, simply doesn't wish to prohibit any possible means of profit. The government of Krysaton sees the possibility of not letting exhaustion stop airship pilots from transporting more goods to and from the city state.   Cinder Cotton is used through the world of Ish'ae, though it is commonly paired with something sweet to offset the notably bad taste. This has led to the derogatory term "honey mouth" for heavy users of Cinder Cotton. The drug has notable short and long term effects. In the short term, spasms, excessive sweating, and short term memory loss are common. In the long term, episodes of muscle cramping, lockjaw, and sexual dysfunction are very common.
