Hwit Mountains

Geography

This range of mountains borders the west coast of the continent of Gi. The mountains begin in the freezing northern pole. The mountains end along the subtropic region of Gi. Most of the mountains are alpine, though as you move south they warm to tundra and the southern most mountains are tropical and marshy, except for the peaks.   The mountains that make up this range are among the highest and most volatile mountains in the world.

Ecosystem

Mostly alpine in nature, which is evidenced by the valley and Piedmont glaciers that form in these alpine mountains, running into the valleys below. The glacier movement is responsible for the creation of Arrow Lake on the western side of the mountain range.   The climate in these mountains is cold and harsh, no month has a mean temperature higher than 10 °C (50 °F). These low temperatures mean that few plants grow in the area and those that do grow grow very slowly.   The southern most mountains, however, are warmer, but this warmth makes the mountain valleys marshy and pron to disease.

Localized Phenomena

This is an alpine climate. In addition to the harsh cold, storms of icy winter bolts can occur during the winter months. These bolts cause both cold and piercing damage to anyone unlucky enough to be caught out in the storm.   Because of the mountain ranges' location the northern most mountain sees only one sunrise and one sunset a year, separating the six months of sunshine from the six months of darkness.   The volcanoes in the range can also lead to avalanches.

Fauna & Flora

These mountains are rumored to be home to Ice Linnorm. These immense primeval creatures inflict immense suffering upon their unfortunate victims. These serpentine creatures are incredibly powerful and brutal monsters and their presence discourages most people from venturing in this range.   This range is home to the Deerfolk, a shy reclusive people.
