Growing Up

Young Koi Karppi by FeelingKoi

Koi had Blonde-White hair growing up that often flowed to her shoulders, her fringe would often gather around her left eye which irritated her greatly. Koi's eyes started as a dull light pastel red that seemed to intenify, brighten and shift in it's hue towards the Magenta that it is today.

Koi's Limbral rings seemed to complete their growth into a complete circle once she was about 11. They were a rich red in colour that only seemed to enhance her intense base eye colour and add to her oddly unsettling stare.

History

Early Life

When Koi was 5 years old, her mother told Koi's two brothers Fel and Hylric to take her to Kugane to 'Live a life better than becoming a High Priestess'. On her order they fled, but their living arrangements fell through, and they had to go to the local orphanage. The Local orphanage had not enough room or funds for them, so Fel and Hylric worked at the Kugane Docks to make enough money for the three of them to survive.

Koi spent alot of her early life amongst the dockyards themselves, she'd become a bit of a favoured sight amongst local fishermen and trawlermen and often managed to score herself seats on the daytime domestic voyages in exchange for manning the bow of the boat and keeping watch for anything too suspicious. During this time she enjoyed drawing landscapes, and trying her best to sketch them with the limited partchment and paints she'd managed to forage.

Koi was also notorious for sketching on pavements and stone walls with chalk and spices stolen from the markets, this landed her with a bad reputation amongst the Sekiseigumi and being nicknamed as a street rat by the policing officers, a title that Koi would wear with pride later in her life. Koi never really had any true respect for the Sekiseigumi because of this and this led to her feeling little to no guilt about stealing food and other perishables that she needed as she grew up as a hungry teen.

Koi got the barest basics of an Education from within the orphanage. She struggled to be taught in large groups, not being able to properly focus on anything she was taught, and found better to teach herself better by stealing the textbooks away and teaching herself in the nights. She struggled with certain concepts, but managed to teach herself how to write in Hingan mostly by herself, confirming with her teachers afterwards that she had things correct.

Teen Years to Early Adulthood

When Koi was 14 years old, her brothers Fel and Hylric got adopted out of the orphanage by two very large, wealthy and prestigious families. This event had a lasting impact on the growing girl, as she suddenly felt cripplingly alone amongst the vastness of the world. The first brother to leave was the younger of the two Hylric, who left to be adopted by the Mogrianes, this wasn't fully told to Koi before he dissapeared and thus she felt abandoned by him.

Since Fel had a longer timespan to his leaving, happening 6 months after Hylric's, he managed to spend enough time with her that she didn't feel as betrayed. Fel gave Koi a small Wind-Up Domakin toy that floated around her, she has treasured it for most of her life, taking serious efforts to keep it with her at all times, as it is the last piece of her brothers she still has left. Fel joined the Gilstriders shortly after that, both brothers were being adopted into families where they were to take the place of the heir, and such Koi was no longer allowed to continue contact with the last pieces of family she had left.

Koi got kicked out of the orphanage soon after her brothers left. The Orphanage sited her as 'nuisiance that couldn't carry herself' and deemed her unfit for further care. Koi sought other shelter amongst the vast and unforgiving port town of Kugane, eventually she managed to find a place within a guild of assassins. She agreed to the arrangement that she will pay off her debts that would occur from her home and board once she gradutates from their tutorage. She learns how to wield a katana from the guild, as well as various other skills that she would manage to weaponise later in life. Koi graduates from the guild at age 14, starting to work for them from then on out.

Ishgard

Koi took on a position of guarding and protecting a young Rose Noire from the age of 14, at the employment of Rose's Grandfather. Plucked out of her somewhat adjusted life in Kugane into a complete foriegn land was a large shock to the young Au Ra and it took alot of time to adjust. Ishgard was harsh and judgemental, already pre-disposed to a disliking of Rose, the prejustice of the Ishgardian public fell harshly upon the draconic-resembling girl causing a great deal of undue grief. Koi and Rose seemed to grow and establish a friendship slowly, however, despite the language barrier, and they grew into unlikely friends, and from Koi's point of view she slowly begun to see her surroundings as the family she never had.

Koi took it upon herself to swear a oath to Rose's grandfather, before the eyes of Halone she promised that she would do anything in her power to keep Rose alive. This oath would be honoured by many a sacrifical act, the Temple Knights providing many an opportunity to prove oneself as a protector. Koi, however, would not stay there for long, as her contract would soon find itself abandoned for work elsewhere. Against Koi's will, in the inky black cold night, Koi was dragged, kicking and screaming away from the people she had grown to love, and back into the hands of the assasins' guild, for a new project alltogether.
