Black Snow

A thick slushy of organic compounds, Black Snow only falls in the northern reaches of Junkaran. While dangerous to organic creatures, Black Snow can be compressed into solid bricks for ease of transport. In lukewarm locations, Black Snow melts into a combustible fluid. When refined, Black Snow becomes a reliable fuel that can burn for long periods of time.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Black Snow resembles its namesake, snow. However, its coloration is an inky black, somewhat reflective as well as if it was made of a liquid. In solid form, Black Snow is still inky black, though its reflective characteristics are less prominent.

Physical & Chemical Properties

In its unrefined form, Black Snow is sticky and cold to the touch. When set ablaze, unrefined Black Snow quickly melts and the resultant liquid burns. However, when refined, the material is liquid, warm to the touch, and just as sticky.

Geology & Geography

This material only falls in Northern Junkaran. Plenty of it falls from the sky, though it isn't clear how it gets up into the clouds or where it even truly comes from.

History & Usage

Industrial Use

Black Snow in its unrefined form is hardly used for anything beyond a simple adhesive. Refined Black Snow, however, is a burnable liquid that can be used as a fuel. Used to power simple engines, to light fires, and more practical uses.

Refinement

The process to create refined Black Snow isn't complicated. Melted black snow, when shaken and stirred for around an hour while an electrical current is run through it, becomes more volatile. After being shaken and electrically charged, Black Snow becomes a thick, tar-like substance that burns easily: refined Black Snow.

Hazards

Black Snow is hazardous to the health of organic creatures. It can cause painful skin irritation, while prolonged contact can even cause irreversible damage in the form of acidic corrosion. Ingesting Black Snow can also cause Bleakrot. Refined Black Snow is also hazardous, causing the same damage to organic individuals.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Scrapback Services owns the territory where Black Snow can be found. As such, they're the main manufacturers of the refined form and the distributors as well. Due to its use as a fuel, it is often traded to outsiders in exchange for Pureloy or Cordeels

Storage

Black Snow can be compressed into bricks for ease of storage and transport. Refined Black Snow however, cannot be compressed into bricks and must be stored in sealed containers, to prevent spills and leaks.
