Fumaya Satyr Irregulars
Commonly nicknamed "the Billy Brigade" despite having far far fewer troops than a brigade.
The Billy Brigade makes up the vast majority of the Fumayan armies satyr recruit. Originally, a few satyrs were scattered among Fumaya's many provinces military units, but with recent events creating a massive recruitment drive, the army has swelled with new satyr recruits. Over half of the preexisting trained satyr soldiers have been transferred out of their old units and charged with leadership positions in the new Fumaya Satyr Irregulars unit to lead and train the new recruits.
The rationale for lumping all the satyrs together is to take advantage of their mobility given that satyrs can cover ground much faster than human infantry due to their athletic goat legs.
Composition
Manpower
The Billy Brigade has roughly 800 members in total.
About 100 veterans from other units, about 400 trained militia level recurits and about 300 satyrs still in training that provide support duties. All satyrs.
The unit has four theurgists, all relatively novice casters (though one is a skilled veteran soldier that developed theurgy relatively late in life). Three aligned with Nami (including Aleesia and one aligned with Korus (the veteran).
The unit holds four field medics trained by the Fumayan Tenders though none of them are spell casters.
Equipment
The Irregulars train to live off the land as much as possible and make due with minimal equipment. The regiment uses few pack animals so most of the soldiers are carrying a fairly heavy load of kit with them.
Most combat manuevers and training exercises are with the satyrs carrying their full kit so they can get used to this "and to build discipline!"
Weaponry
The Fumaya Satyr irregulars have somewhat irregular equipment. Commonly they use spears, shields, light crossbows and arming swords, but some use battle axes, long swords, maces, and war bows.
Structure
The overall commander is Commander Lanlar the Satyr who is well respected by his soldiers.
The Billy Brigade is primarily organized into squads of ten to twenty satyrs with a squad leader vetted and approved by Lanlar. Lanlar established a loose system of ranks so if squads combine, it is clear who is in overall command, all the way up to two lieutenants who Lanlar could replace him immediately if he himself fell.
Officially Lanlar reports to the Grand Marshal of Fumaya and by extension King Henryk III, but Lanlar is socially adept and he will graciously follow the command of any ranking human noble in the chain of command assuming the noble isn't a moron.
Tactics
The Billy Brigade focuses on small unit style tactics. They have trained to act independently as foragers and geurilla fighters but also to work as detachments to human infantry units.
Training
Some humans say training satyrs is like herding cats. That said, Lanlar and his officers seem up to the job. They have a tough love approach.
On the plus side, most Mediterranean satyrs are raised with an eye towards them being able to look after themselves so most joined the regiment with some preexisting training in weapons and basic survival. Lanlar also vetted each recruit for basic physical vigor and mental toughness so all the soldiers are above average phsyical fitness.
It is just a matter of instilling discipline after that.
