Goddess Choosing Ceremony

A coming of age ceremony in Draconic culture where a young dragon on the cusp of adulthood selects one of the Elemental Goddesses to be their main patron.  Unlike a warlock, cleric, or paladin arrangement, this is not a reciprocal relationship; it is merely a declaration of the kind of values and goals that a young dragon aspires to, and lays who that dragon will likely be directing the majority of their prayers to.  Many (but not all) dragons choose along scale color lines, or based around the primary goddess of their region. Although it was originally a draconic custom, most of the humanoids of Scalespiral have also picked it up, and select a goddess as they reach their age of majority.

Execution

A fledgling on the cusp of majority takes time to think about their future plans, and to decide which goddess’ domain fits them best.  Once they have decided, they will travel to a temple for that goddess (usually the nearest one, although fledglings with a specific passion may travel to a more distant temple that is a closer match for their interests) and declare their adult name, and career path, which will be recorded by the temple.  If the fledgling has already been apprenticing to a mentor, this ceremony will usually take place when they are ready to graduate to journeyman, and then mentor will attend and vouch for the fledgling’s skills and readiness to advance to the next level.  If the fledgling has not already been working on an apprenticeship, the priest of the temple will work to pair the fledgling with a mentor.

Observance

For dragons, the ceremony usually occurs around their twentieth decade
For humans, it usually occurs around their 20th birthday
Other species generally place the ceremony at the equivalent maturation level.
