General Summary
The trio stayed overnight at the The Sapphire Library, and at Dawn’s light headed out on Sonaranth’s fastest horses, following the glow of the tracking stone. About two days into the ride, the stone abruptly began to splutter, before going out entirely. Luckily, the trio needed to go only a little farther before catching site of a watch tower. They tethered the horses behind some boulders and walked up to the tower, heading for the front door, with Minverix and Gurthang in the air. The door opened before they reached it, and a legionnaire stepped out, greeting Prrtz as “Lord Viridian”. Prrtz attempted to bluff, pretending to be Lord Viridian and asking about the dragon that their predecessor rode in to Dolaris. Unfortunately, the nature of some of the questions (such as asking if the dragon had ‘returned’ to a temporary camp) alerted the guard that something was not right, and she ran for a superior. The superior asked how Prrtz had obtained the title of Lord Rogue, and when Prrtz said it was given to them directly from the previous rogue she and the original guard attacked. Meanwhile, Gurthang was befriending the guard atop the tower, and learned that Viridian, the name of the dragon ridden by the Viridian rogue, had “headed directly back to the Hatchery”. Gurthang came down the tower just in time for the fighting to start, and the trio quickly dispatched the three guards that had seen through their lies, and taking stock of the large temporary encampment that the tower seemed to be guarding. They then made a plan; Prrtz would sneak through the camp and investigate the pile of 6 dragons that the trio could see from the tower, while Minverix and Gurthang created a diversion by setting the tower on fire, which would also serve to hide the dead bodies. Before starting the fire, Gurthang changed into the legionnaires uniform that one of the dead guards was wearing, as Prrtz began creeping through the town. In short time, the tower went up in flames like a Roman candle, causing a hue and cry to go through the camp as legionnaires streamed to defensive positions. Prrtz used this opportunity to creep over to the dragons, and investigate their weird harnesses, and to also discover that a large open area of the camp held a gnome prisoner, guarded by six guards. Gurthang and Minverix, on the other hand, were having a TERRIBLE time; about 50 legionnaires had gathered around the flaming tower and were fanning out in a grid search pattern. The pair panicked and took off on Gurthang’s broom, making for the sky. This, of course, alerted the legionnaires, and about 13 raced back towards camp. Prrtz, trying to work out what to do about the prisoner, saw these bakers dozen legionnaires head for the dragons nest they had just left, and followed them over, pulling off their hood and stepping out of the shadows. The legionnaires paused and greeted Prrtz as Lord Viridian, but leapt to follow their instructions when they gestured to keep saddling. When the dragon was fully harnessed, with 16 large loops hanging off the sides of its harness, Prrtz ordered the legionnaires to mount, and then followed suit, stepping into one of the loops hanging off the side of the dragon and holding on. The dragon took off and looped around the camp once, before Prrtz ordered it to grab the gnome prisoner; it swooped down low over the heads of the guards and grabbed the stake the prisoner was tied to in its large claws. Then Prrtz ordered it out towards the burning tower, and after spotting a black dot fleeing towards the horizon, onwards after what Prrtz suspected were their friends. For Minverix and Gurthang, however, all they knew was that a large green dragon carrying a number of legionnaires was barreling down onto them. Luckily, they waited to throw their spells until they could pick out which legionnaire was the leader, at which point they were ALSO able to see that Prrtz was clearly the one in charge. Prrtz pulled up beside them and used Message to say “ride’s here”, and the two joined the legionnaires on the dragon, Gurthang in a loop and Minverix nestled into the straps on the dragons back, as Prrtz ordered the dragon to fly on to the Hatchery.
