The Monster of Pigo lake

It is said in the icy depths of the small, southern lake, their lies a creature. Terrible! some say, fierce and deadly. Others tell of its benevolence, of shelter given in storms, and boats saved from frigid depths. But none can tell...

Summary

A monster is said to reside in the depths of Pigo lake. Every year it supposedly steals livestock from the surrounding countryside just days before the lake freezes over, to feed itself during the winter months. And if a fisherman is irresponsible with the bounty of the lake, some say the monster will swim under his boat, chasing away fish and summoning storms. Some tell tales of how the monster saved them from storms, making waves to wash them to shore.

Historical Basis

Cattle are often found missing from the towns surrounding Pigo, especially just before winter, as the frost trolls store up food for the long dark months.   There have been several miraculous events on the lake, often surrounding great waves and storms, either saving or dooming fishermen.   Experts say a large creature cannot survive at the bottom of the lake, because it freezes over each year.

Spread

This myth is commonly belived in the southern lands of Toclomar, and at least heard of up to the Durnhala mountains.
