This world - so like the one they never had the chance to know, so unlike the one they had grown up on - still appeared ready-made for their arrival. The stable atmosphere, the comfortable gravity, the fruiting land and the plentiful resources opened wide and welcoming arms to the distraught people of the passenger ship "Paradise". They were trapped here, with no hope of ever returning home, but here existed the opportunity to make a new home, and to make the best of things. It would have been perfect, but there was one problem. They were not the first to claim it.
In an alternate universe, totally different from that of the main story line, there is another planet, home to the human species. In fact, in this universe, the planet Etagard is the origin world for humankind. Given the existence of the multiverse, it is possible - although astronomically unlikely - for human beings from one universe to find other human beings in another. However, this is exactly what happened to the passenger ship Paradise when a botched wormhole jump caused the vessel to collide with an enormous geometrid on the other side of the gap. The humans of Evermore found themselves on an alien world, and they were not alone - a far less technologically advanced population of humans, native to that world, inhabited all continents the world over.
