Eden
A cautionary tale of hubris
The entire fleet, once three hundred men and women strong, was reduced to little more than a hundred. The horrors they saw, the violence they endured; none of it could come home with them. Some said they should have turned around the moment they found the hollow city, but the chance to make a discovery the likes of which Earth had never known pulled them in with promises of fame and fortune. That was before they entered the tunnels, but they indeed got their wish. Within the honeycomb dwelled monstrosities unfathomable, sickened by the blood-red stone, marred by centuries of rot and growth. Only a miracle pulled the team out of that derelict skeleton of a civilization. They came home, with less than they sought, and more than they bargained for.Another planet of the Milky Way Galaxy, Eden began humanity's relationship with the substance sanguinite, and the terrible power and influence it offered. Eden was once a fertile land, fostering a far-advanced race sometimes referred to as the Gamorrhans. They were once divided into a multitude of countries, much like Earth's population of humans, but when one found obsiphonite within their soil, everything changed. It allowed them to build technologies and weapons unlike any other on their planet, and they used them to wage war against the rest of the world, eventually conquering it completely. The ensuing genocides fueled the creation of large quantities of sanguinite, which furthered their technological might and allowed them to build an empire unrivaled by any in the system. They carved out the mantle, connecting tunnels and passageways across vast stretches of land, while their skyward expansion became laced with lanes for flying vehicles and walkways held aloft. Their dominion came to an end when the growing dissonance of the sanguinite and remaining obsiphonite resulted in an negative pulse, killing nearly everything on the planet.
