Bloodcleaning

There are two main sources for water in Saraya, the easy way being the Pod o' the Soul. Then, there is the blood of the creatures of the desert. The problem with the latter was always the consequences of drinking blood of a wild creature, without even mentioning that most reviled the thought. However one scientist developed a way to distil it into potable water.

Discovery

The eureka that is Bloodcleaning came to Somoya Ritell while she was trying to distill water from saline solution. She figured that while salt water was becoming increasingly harder to come by, especially farther in land, animals held an invaluable resource that often went to waste. Thus, she attempted to distil water from blood, and the rest was history. The technique has been perfected over time, and is now one of the main sources of water in Saraya.

Availability

The ingenuity of the technology lies in its simplicity, as all that is required is heat and glass or metal apparatus. Barely a rudimentary understanding of physics is needed, and thus it could spread to each settlement that interested themselves in it. Nowadays, it is such a common occurrence that no one questions it, and few even remember who actually discovered it.

Somoya Ritell

The inventor of this technology was an accomplished scientist in her own right before developing it, with numerous smaller discoveries dotted throughout her career before it. These include investigations into harnessing Bolt Bats abilities for transportation, and the reasons activated Thuburro horn insulate from dehydrant salts.

Variations and Further Work

The original implementation of distilling saltwater, the technology that sparked this one, is itself defunct due to it being nearly impossible to find anymore. However, some work has been done in researching dehydrant salts effects in a similar methodology, which if fruitful could prove infinitely useful.

This is a really unique idea! Do they have hunter teams specifically seeking blood for this?

Definitely! There are creatures who live both under and overground, and thus bring water from below to the surface, and they are totally caught for this express purpose. :)
