The Dwarves of Sanctum

The Dwarves of Sanctum find themselves in a dual society. In the deepest parts of the Icespire Peaks, the Dreaming Collective act as a sort of psychic hive mind of miners and crystal growers, using their innate psychic abilities to coerce natural materials from the stone and produce the Psi Crystals that power the machines from above.
In order to connect with the outside world, without allowing outside consciousnesses to influence their singular focus, members of the collective have gone through the Ritual of Bisection. This ritual blocks the selected dwarf from psychic connections greater than the powering of Psi-Crystal machines. For many years, the Bisected acted as ambassadors between the Collective and the rest of the world. After the Flood, many bisected were separated headed south with the Exodus. Thus the creation of the rest of the dwarven subraces
