Royal priest of the Duiniken

General introduction

The royal priest of the Duiniken is a special title within the ranks of the retainers of the Duiniken king. It is a group of four to five priests, who are responsible for religious practises around the royal household as well as for preparation and assistance in execution of religious practises of the royals.

Field of expertise and responsibilities

The royal priests are tasked with all passage rites, tites connected to acquisition of posts as well as household related rites and tasks within the royal house of the Duiniken. This includes baptisms, weddings, funeral rites as well as more special rites like coronations, inaugurations and appointments to certain positions. Minor responsibilities include caring for certain spirits who are believed to be benevolent to the Duiniken and the assistance in certain rites conducted by the king and the queen.

Role in society

The royal priests are an important part of the retainers. They are recruited from powerful families, either connected to the cults of the gods or to magic, no matter of which kind. The recruitment takes place randomly at any given time, when the number of priests drops to three or even lower. One or two potential new members are recruited who are suggested by the king. These new members go through an internship phase before becoming full fledged royal priests of the Duiniken.

The members always stem from the upper strata of society. The title, although majorly important, is not an axclusive title, so royal priests of the Duiniken can still play other roles and take other positions as well. This for example often enabled members of the Fhid'ou Lóm to be either royal priests of the Duiniken and to have access even to the Regalia of the Kings of the Duiniken.
