Red Leg Syndrome

Red Leg Syndrome is a serious condition that affects Salthans. It is highly contagious among Salthans, but cannot be spread to humans or Sylvanians.
 

Transmission & Vectors


  contact with infected patient, or possibly things patient has touched, through spreading of bacteriea or fungus. Or by contact with body fluids of paitent.
 
 

Causes


  The causes of the condition are either bacterial, an infectious parasite or a infectious fungus.
 
 
 

Symptoms


  Reddening of the legs, Anemia, Lethargy, Extreme weight loss, Open sores on the skin, nose, and toes that do not heal, Ascitis (collection of fluid in the abdominal cavity), fever, inflammatory or necrotic foci in the liver, spleen, and other coelomic organs.
 
 
 

Treatment


  Depending on the vector of infection, ranges from antibiotics to anti-parasite or anti-fungal treatments.
 
 

Affected Groups


  Generally those who travel from the wastes, so typically it effects males age 20 to 30 more, particularly those who are in the trades of extra-city trade or artifact hunters. However, those outside this demographic such as females, children and more rarely the elderly have been infected too.
 
 
 

Prevention


  Proper sanitation is key. This includes Keeping food and water covered and protected from bacterial infection and frequent cleaning of scales to prevent fungal or parasite infection. Also, keeping away from those who are suspected to be infected with red leg syndrome.
 

Epidemiology


  It is not known the exact cause of outbreaks, but tends to be carried from those who journey into the wastes and return to the city and then interacting with the general public without properly washing themselves, around 600 KG most of the city-states made it a law that those coming in from the wastes must wash themselves immediatly on entering, the punishment for the offense paying for the medical treatment of anyone infected in the next 5 days, and possibly exile.
