Family History
The family of Kendrick is an old, well-known family in Salem, Massachusetts- if for only their infamy.
Katherine Kendrick, the progenitor of the family, lived in a small cottage on the outskirts of Salem with her three children; a boy and two girls. Katherine was found guilty of witchcraft and was actually burned at the stake instead of being hung like the others. Her son hid himself and his sisters, who eventually came back to the town as adults and started thriving businesses. Samuel, her son, built an enormous house, one that the plans were kept secret and the builder's oath-sworn not to tell what they were. He became a powerful figure in the community, even becoming mayor.
The businesses were prosperous and the following Kendrick's were frugal by nature and invested their money wisely, until Ezekiel Kendrick.
Zeke was a spendthrift from day one, while his father was alive, Ezekiel was given only small sums of money, but that was not even enough to forestall his debt.
As it built, Alzack, his father was forced to sell off pieces of his fortune and eventually perished from a heart attack. Zeke now had control of his own money and promptly spent it playing game of chance. His sister begged him to quit and think of the family, to no avail.
One night while playing cards, Zeke bet the ancestral home in a last ditch attempt to win... and lost all. He and his sister were evicted quickly with almost only the clothes on their backs. His sister soon married and threw off the tradition of keeping the family name, which had now been thoroughly tarnished, and took her husband's name. Her brother was soon put in jail for unpaid fines.
Anna and her husband built a new home, not as grand as her former one, but one that was well-built and would stand the test of time and many generations to come. She called it Willowtree Estate, so named for the willows that soon lined the driveway, but she always mourned the loss of her true home, Kendrick Manor.
