Pilgrimage to the Mother Frog

Zeribians believe, that while their childrens' souls are still developing, they are under a constant threat of being harmed by the wild spirits. One way to protect them, is by making a pilgimage.

The temple

While visiting the port town of Gaur on the West Island), families take their young children to visit the Grand Temple of Idûrfeš, the main religious instalment of the town. The temple is located on a nearby island, connected to the main part of the town by a large bridge. The huge temple build of rock and wood stands on a hill consealed by trees.   Unlike in most Zeribian temples, that are ment for respectful and quiet devotion, the children are free to run and play here. The garden is a place of laughter, and the children enjoy meeting new friends that have travelled there from far away islands

Excecution

In the temple the children are cleansed by washing them with the holy spring water of the temple. Separate pools are provided for the nobles and commoners to use. The children can also be additionally protected by spells cast by the priests (for an additional fee). The temple sells protective amulets and toys shaped like the Frog Godess, that the children can take with them for protection.

Danger of the spirits

Even an adult Zeribian's daily life is full of rituals and rules, that are meant to gain the favour of the spirits, but they believe that the children under the age of seven are not yet full humans, and are therefore unable to protect themselves which makes them even more vulnerable. The children are protected in many ways, the most notable being, that the children are called by a child name in order to trick the spirits to not recognise the child as a human, and to prevent them from taking control over the child's true being. They are also made to wear protective amulets, and to avoid spiritually active places of nature.

Idûrfeš is the Zeribian god of fresh water and water creatures, who is depicted as a mother frog carefully protecting her young, and suckling the human kind with her life-giving waters. Therefore she is also the protector of young children.
