Grišumged - Zeribian education

What kind of formal education is available to children in your world? Why is it available and how is it organized?
In Zeribian culture the education is mostly reserved to the highest social classes. The education is funded by the parents, which makes it inaccessible to the most but the nobles and rich artisan and trader families. The commoners are usually illiterate, or might know how to read some Nem (Faren language). Because the Zeribians do generally not use money, the payments include many useful products such as foodstuff that is offered to the gods, and then used to feed the priests.   The Zeribian schools, grišumged, are usually in, or in the vicinity of tempels. The teachers are usually also priests, and live in the school building with their families. The teachers are respected because they belong to high social classes, but they are usually low ranking in the priesthood, either those that are very young, or on the other hand very old who might be unable to do other chores of the temple. The girl, boy and Šyrzir students are thought mostly by teachers of the same gender.   The education is aimed to provide very broad knowledge to the students. They study writing and literature in Standard Zeribian language, rethorics, history, politics, astronomy, natural sciences and traditional arts. Physical education is also major part of the curriculum. All students are expected to be exeptional in general things like running and swimming. The education for boys and šyrzir has more focus on military skills, and learning how to fight with the spear and sword. The girls learn how to use the bow and spear, and the focus is on learning how to defend oneself.   The students who have home in the town are usually living with their family, but they periodically spend time in the temple praying and fasting in preparation to some rituals.   Many students of the lower classes only study for 1-3 years to learn how to write. For nobles the education lasts until they turn 15. The student's life during the education is very much determined by the social standing of their family, the students have a strict internal hierarchy and those that are of lower standing are made sure they know they are lower class citizens.
