Eden II Settlement in Sagitta Epsilon | World Anvil

Eden II

This article is an entry to World Anvil Summer Camp 2022.

It answered the prompt: "A settlement that was lost or discovered."
Eden II was a large city that was damaged beyond repair by an outbreak of large, deadly tornadoes in 2001 SE. In the height of its day, Eden II had a population of nearly 800,000 people, but the city was in decline for years before the storm outbreak. The city's primary industry was agricultural in nature, but the industry failed after years of bad luck.

Demographics

During Eden II's prime, it had many species housed in its buildings. Only Thinkers of Paradise and the occasional Human were found in the city by the time of its destruction though. Those who stayed in the city after 1960 SE were those who could not leave for one reason or another.

Industry & Trade

Eden II was a city primarily fed by its agricultural industry, but it was fed mostly by its barely-there industrial district during its decline. After a series of plagues, droughts, and other afflictions, the agricultural industry all but died off by 1955 SE. As the city crumbled, the flow of trade slowed before stopping in its tracks.

History

Eden II thrived in its heyday of the mid 1800s. Once 1925 hit, though, the once-thriving agricultural industry was being stricken with plague after drought after bad crop. Within two decades, the agricultural industry was next to non-existent. Within thirty years, the city relied primarily on its small industrial sector to keep up with any necessary repairs.

When a large storm formed over the city in 2001 SE, the local government was already completely out of money and the infrastructure was in disrepair. Three tornadoes formed within the city proper, causing already-unstable buildings to collapse. The death toll was in the hundreds.
